All roads led to Illies Community Centre, Buncrana, recently for the All-County Indoor Hurling and Camogie finals, where Holy Family, Ballyshannon and St Mura’s Tooban, came out on top in the respective competitions. Please click on the arrows to go through the gallery
After a series of regional qualifiers, the hurling final was contested by Craigtown NS, Dromore NS, Holy Family Ballyshannon and Scoil Iosagáin, Buncrana. From the first to the last game, it was obvious this would be a hard-fought competition with all games won by the finest margin or ending in a draw.
Holy Family, Ballyshannon, powered on by their Aodh Ruadh hurlers, finished top with five points, winning two games and drawing their first game. Craigtown NS, Carndonagh, were worthy runners-up.
Dromore NS and Scoil Iosagáin also played very well and were only narrowly beaten in their games. Indeed, Scoil Iosagáin were the only team to score against the winners.
In the Camogie final, six schools took part in what was a straight final. Scoil Bhríde, Muff, Dromore NS, Holy Family, Scoil Mhuire Glenties, St Muras Tooban and St Aengus Bridgend.
After the group stages, it was obvious that Bridgend and Tooban were the strongest of the teams playing and so it was those two schools who qualified for the final. The semi-finals were competitive, and Bridgend only got the better of Scoil Bhríde Muff with the last puck of the game!
Tooban, reigning champions, proved to be too strong for their neighbours in Burnfoot and were runaway winners. It was good to see schools from Muff, Ballyshannon and Glenties taking part, areas that wouldn’t be known as Camogie strongholds. Both St Muras, Tooban and Holy Family, Ballyshannon, now qualify for the Ulster Indoor competitions and we wish them well as they prepare for the Ulster finals.
