Donegal's first Ulster title of 1972 - like a Phoenix from the Flame

Peter Campbell speaks to team manager Brian McEniff to mark Donegal's great breakthrough in winning their first Ulster SFC 50 years ago this weekend and details on a player-by-player basis those who helped make the achievement possible

Seamus Bonar (Four Masters)
Seamus Bonar played firstly for a junior club Drumbar and then for Clanna Gael and in later life he was captain of Civil Service in Dublin, when they won a Dublin senior championship with them.
He was involved with me for all of Donegal's first five Ulster titles, as a player in '72, '74 and '83 and as a mentor in 1990 and '92. He was a tall, rangy, very good footballer. He went to An Garda as a mechanic and was one of a number of players who trained in Dublin under Det. Sgt. Kieran McCready, who looked after the city players.

Seamus was a vital member of Donegal successes and also managed Leitrim at one stage. He was taken much too soon in 2012, but is very fondly remembered for the great contribution he made to Donegal GAA. 1972 was Seamus's first championship year and he continued at that level until 1985.
