Donegal's first Ulster title of 1972 - like a Phoenix from the Flame

Peter Campbell speaks to team manager Brian McEniff to mark Donegal's great breakthrough in winning their first Ulster SFC 50 years ago this weekend and details on a player-by-player basis those who helped make the achievement possible

Mickey McMenamin was one of the stars for MacCumhaill's when they won the Donegal club championship in 1971 and I called him into the squad right away. St Joseph's had played them in the semi-final in Donegal Town and he gave an outstanding display.

He was a fine footballer with great hands and was very good to give a pass or take a score. He went off to England after 1972 and had a son that played soccer in England. Mickey was a big miss to the Donegal squad when he left. Sadly he passed away in England at a young age.
