Donegal's first Ulster title of 1972 - like a Phoenix from the Flame

Peter Campbell speaks to team manager Brian McEniff to mark Donegal's great breakthrough in winning their first Ulster SFC 50 years ago this weekend and details on a player-by-player basis those who helped make the achievement possible

Andy Curran (MacCumhaill's)
Born in Castlefin, Andy Curran moved to MacCumhaill's and it proved to be a good move for him. He thrived in the senior competition and that got him his chance to join the Donegal squad. He could play wing half-back or corner-back. He might not have been the greatest kicker of a ball, but I remember him kicking one in Newry which hopped over the bar.

He also played one game in Carrick-on-Shannon against Leitrim where they only got one point and that was a block from Andy which went over and somebody said the report would read A Curran 0-1. He was full of fun and a great reader of the game. He was tough and strong but no way dirty and read the game very well. Won a Donegal SFC with MacCumhaill's in 1971 and worked with CIE in Stranorlar. Still lives in Castlefin.
