Catching the eye: Players to watch in this year’s Football Championships

With county players not playing for spells of the All-County Football League, there were a number of stand-out players who have yet to make their senior inter-county bow that will be looking to take their good form into the football championships in the coming weeks

Brian O'Donnell (Kilcar)
Probably one of the players of the year for Kilcar under new manager Conor Cunningham. O’Donnell has been an ever-present at full-back, a problem position for the south-west club with the ageless Conor McShane stepping away. O’Donnell had taken the position about two years ago but then suffered a cruciate injury, and the recovery was a little slower than normal. But he is back and while not overly tall for a full-back, has a real presence.
He showed in the league final against Naomh Conaill that he is not a one-trick pony, getting forward to hit two good points at a vital stage. Was on the county minor panel a few years ago and most certainly looks like he has put himself in the picture for any senior county trials in the near future.
