Off the beaten track 2: A selection of stories from last week's championship

Here’s a look at some of the things that might have caught your eye during the respective club championships matches over the last week or so

From track to field
On Sunday morning last in Munday’s Field in Ballyshannon, the Ladies of Letterkenny Gaels came to Ballyshannon for a Junior B Championship encounter which they had hopes of winning.

But they did not expect to find a World class 400m hurdler wearing the No. 6 jersey of Aodh Ruadh. Lucy McGlynn, fresh from her exploits in the Irish National Championships and with the Ireland U-20s at the World Championships in Cali, Columbia, dominated the game as she glided forward time after time with the ball to take the wind out of the Gaels’ sails.

Imagine trying to keep up with McGlynn, who can run the 100m hurdles in 14 seconds? It was just poetry in motion watching her. In the end McGlynn was central to an Aodh Ruadh win by 4-14 to 2-13. No doubt only for her commitment to athletics, she would be a welcome addition to the Donegal senior team. PC
