Numbers do count
It reared its head again at the weekend, this crazy situation of teams submitting teams for a programme and then making wholesale changes. The biggest culprits in the Intermediate championship were Buncrana, who made a total of 14 changes to the team listed in the programme.
But what was worse, they changed the numbers the players were wearing. I’m hearing that they had some issue with the Donegal CCC but surely their reaction in not cooperating with the County PRO in his efforts to produce a programme was showing total disrespect to the spectators who paid in to see their game with Naomh Columba in O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny on Sunday.
They weren’t the only offenders, but the others were not as bad. Naomh Columba adhered 100% to the programme. I just can’t see the logic (or a perceived advantage) in what clubs are looking at. I know there is a fine involved for not adhering to programme numbers, I would be advocating that it be doubled. There is just no excuse.
The programme also includes the teams for this coming weekend’s senior and junior quarter-finals and it looks as if Gaoth Dobhair have gone into non-cooperative mode as they have listed Duine Eile for all 15 starting positions as well as all the substitutes. Could we have Duine Eile on our team of the week on Sunday evening? -PC
