In pictures: Patricia Britton’s Lady Captain’s Day at Donegal Golf Club Murvagh

The first time Lady Captain Patricia came to Murvagh was in the late 1980’s when she and Helen O’Shea took lessons from Maire O’Donnell but it wasn’t till 2008 that she joined Murvagh Golf Club through the Woman and Sport initiative

The course was well presented and looked fantastic, it was a day one could enjoy golf no matter what the score. The ladies and guests had a delicious three-course meal thanks to the chefs and staff in the restaurant.

Addressing the gathering Lady Captain Patricia Britton welcomed the members, staff, family and friends and the visiting Lady Captains Bernie and Breege from Bundoran and Ballybofey /Stranorlar Golf clubs respectively. She said she was totally delighted to see so many in Murvagh on her special night.

The first time Lady Captain Patricia came to Murvagh was in the late 1980’s when she and Helen O’Shea took lessons from Maire O’Donnell but it wasn’t till 2008 that she joined Murvagh Golf Club through the Woman and Sport initiative. She said great credit is due to Ursula Miller, Bernie Tracey, and Pru Hamilton RIP as many who joined that year and the following three years made their mark and are still here as members.

Patricia thanked all those who have supported me through her year as Lady Captain she especially thanked her husband Pat who has been great, no matter the task. Her past captain Mary Harley, Vice-Captain Ger Giblin, the ladies' committee, all those on sub-committees, Team Captains and all those who have participated in the teams.

“What a bunch of competitive ladies and hopefully they will bring home some silverware this year,” she said, She also thanked: “ Michele who ran our winter links, Rena our junior convenor, child protection officer Mary, the Management team our head green keeper Paul, green convenor Eamon and the staff who have been working with the Paul McGinley design team. She thanked Grainne the administrator, Katrina their bookkeeper, Sean and all the shop staff, Caroline, Kathy Enda and all of the bar and restaurant staff. Leslie, the PRO, who is always so encouraging to all of us.”

Patricia also thanked photographers John Fallon and Emer O’Shea for their fabulous photographs which feature in the prizes, all her prizes she felt had something special about them as are by local artists who are based in the Craft Village Donegal Town and Ardara. €610 had been contributed on the day to her special charity Education in the Gambia. She congratulated the winners in advance and handed over to competition secretary Tracey Clarke to announce the prize winners
