Seven things: Movies that were shot in Donegal

Due to the county's beautiful and unique landscape, Donegal has become an increasingly popular destination for some of Hollywood's finest

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Star Wars: The Last Jedi features actors such as Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, John Boyega and Adam Driver. Possibly the most famous release to be filmed in Donegal, Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi is a film about space written by Rian Johnson and it premiered in Los Angeles on December 9, 2017. 
The movie is the eighth part of the Star Wars franchise which is the second highest-grossing franchise in the world and The Last Jedi was the highest-grossing film in the year of its release.  It is divided into three sections, the Prequel Trilogy (1999-2005), The Original Trilogy (1977-1983) and the Sequel Trilogy (2015-2019), in which Star Wars: The Last Jedi is featured as the second instalment.

The movie depicts Daisy Ridley as Rey and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker assisting the Resistance in their fight against the First Order. 

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was filmed predominantly on the west coast of Ireland, along the Wild Atlantic Way taking in places such as Cork, Kerry, Clare and Donegal.

In May 2016, over three days parts of the movie were filmed at Hell’s Hole in Malin Head, the most northerly point of Ireland located in the Inishowen Peninsula. Farren’s Bar located in Malin Head even painted a mural of Yoda on the side of their pub to celebrate the occasion.
