The launch of the 2023 Creeslough View took place in the Day Centre in Creeslough on Saturday evening last.
This is the 23rd Edition of the publication which has grown to become a treasure trove of information of the history of the area and also a chronicle of local events and interesting articles for those living in the area but especially for our emigrants as the magazine is posted to destinations far and wide every year. This year also saw the launch of the newly updated Creeslough View website which will showcase past articles from the magazine as well as interviews with local people and videos of local events.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘View’ and the website, Marie Duffy thanked everyone who had contributed to the magazine this year.
“This was the biggest edition yet and the Creeslough View committee are very grateful for everyone’s contribution,” she said. “Anyone who has a story or an article to get in touch as soon as possible as the work on next year's edition begins straight away.”
Marie also thanked the advertisers for their support and she especially thanked Francis Diver from the Tirconaill Tribune for his help with the book and Eamon McFadden for his help in redesigning the new website.
She said that new articles will be added to the website weekly and that articles for next year’s magazine will begin to appear online after Christmas.
Marie also thanked and paid tribute to the work put into the Creeslough View by Gerard Duffy and Declan Breslin over the past 24 years.
Also speaking at the launch Declan Breslin also encouraged those with stories to get in touch and he also encouraged today’s children to record and document their grandparents’ stories as he fears that that generation's stories might be lost.
This year's edition which is the biggest yet features the usual range of local articles and photos of the year gone by as well as remembering those who have passed away which has always been an important part of the Creeslough View down through the years.
Among the articles featured this year are memories of Stephen Montgomery, the story of Heather the Guide Dog, Shaun Paul Cannon's trip to Kilimanjaro, the New Extension at Scoil Mhuire in Creeslough, Tory Tales of Myths and Magic and the story of lifelong fisherman Charlie Sweeney, the anniversary of the Creeslough Tragedy as well as the Donegal Association in Dublin honouring the people of Creeslough.
