In pictures: Tradition in full flow as Donegal’s marching bands celebrate Easter

The annual parade held on Easter Sunday seen thirteen bands line the streets

Easter celebrations in Dungloe saw bands from across the county all line to raise the flag and march the street. Please use the arrows/Next to view the gallery of bands 

The competitive style parade was hosted on Sunday and saw thirteen bands all participate and try to win the trophy. The participating bands were Meenacross band; Maghery band; Donegal Town band; Crickamore band; Mullaghduff band; Annagry band; Cloughaneely Band; Ranfast senior band; Ranfast band; Killybegs band; Maghery senior band; St Crona’s band, Dungloe; Maghery senior competitive band.

“We had a great day in Dungloe today at the Easter Parade,  congratulations to each of the 13 marching bands that took part,  it was a pleasure to listen to you all,” Mary Rodgers, the event photographer, shared. “A credit to each and every single person involved in each band, you were all looking fantastic.  We are very fortunate to have such a strong tradition of music, long may it last.”

Winners:

  • Novice Section: Dungloe Junior Band
  • Junior Misc/Accordion Section: First place - Banna Ceoil Cloich Cheann Fhaola, followed by  St Catherine’s Accordion Band, Killybegs
  • Senior Fife Section: Maghery Senior Competitive Band
  • Best Band on Parade: Maghery Senior Competitive Band
  • Best Drum Major: Maghery Senior Competitive Band
  • Best Music: Maghery Senior Competitive Band
  • Best Drum Corp: Maghery Senior Competitive Band
  • Best Presentation and Appearance: Maghery Senior Competitive Band
  • Best Non-Competing Band: Maghery Senior Band
  • Best Majorettes: St Catherine’s Accordion Band, Killybegs

“Thanks to all the bands for a brilliant parade today, and congratulations to all the winners in the competition,” Dungloe Easter Sunday (event organisers) shared. “A fabulous day was had in Dungloe, helped by the weather, but wouldn't be possible without the co-operation of all our wonderful bands.”
