The FET Fair was attended by school leavers and their parents/guardians. It included a panel discussion with Donegal ETB’s FET staff and current and former students which discussed the wide range of FET options available to school leavers such as apprenticeships, Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses, specific skills training courses, tertiary degrees and traineeships.
Panellists included Donegal ETB Area training Manager Vinny McGroary, Donegal ETB Quality Assurance Manager Deirdre McColgan, recently graduated electrical apprentice Katy McGeady, Intellectual Disability Studies student Kevin McGranaghan, PLC Business Studies student Cathal Mac Gairbheith and former Beauty Therapy student Aine Boyle.
Information was also provided on options available to those in employment but looking to upskill or reskill. The event was open to the general public the following evening. They were able to check out the wide range of full and part-time education and training opportunities offered by Donegal ETB’s FET Service around the county. Attendees viewed interactive skills demonstrations and had the chance to speak to current students and staff.
Last year, over 19,000 students participated in FET courses with Donegal ETB in more than 100 venues across the county, availing of opportunities to progress onto further and higher education, retrain, upskill and get on-the-job work experience.
Those who missed the Fair can apply for a Donegal ETB FET course online on their website or contact the ETB’s Adult Guidance and Information Service on (074) 9178088 for advice.
