In pictures: Community spirit shines at Point to Pier Swim in aid of charity

The annual Point to Pier Swim brought Sheephaven Bay alive with excitement and determination as 56 swimmers braved testing conditions to complete the challenging crossing. Please click on the arrows to go through the gallery

Despite the tough waters, every swimmer reached the shore safely, marking a proud achievement for all involved.

This year’s event was a major success, raising over €3,500 for two vital local causes - RNLI Lifeboats and the Donegal Hospice. Both organisations play an essential role in supporting communities across Donegal, and the funds raised will go directly towards their lifesaving and compassionate work.

The event, which has become a highlight of the local sporting calendar, would not have been possible without the support of many hands. A special word of thanks goes to the Robinson Family, who kindly opened their home and garden to serve as Race HQ. Immense gratitude is also extended to the boat and kayak crews who ensured swimmer safety throughout the crossing, and to our sponsors, Letterkenny Credit Union and Errigal Training Centre in Falcarragh, whose backing made the event possible.

In the men’s category, Aidan Callaghan claimed first place with a brilliant winning time of 52 minutes, while in the women’s category, Julie Murphy led the way with an outstanding time of 55 minutes.

The event also featured a predicted time challenge, where swimmers estimated their finishing times in advance. In an extraordinary display of accuracy, Brian Muckian was the closest to his prediction, finishing within a remarkable five seconds of his estimated time. Other swimmers also came impressively close to their predictions, including John McKenna, Rory McCauley, Sean McMenamin, Tony Davison, Sarah Brennan, and Kieran Fitzgerald.

The Point to Pier Swim 2025 will live long in the memories of those who took part and those who supported it, reflecting not only athletic endurance but also the generosity and community spirit of Donegal.
