There was local success all round at the Wild Atlantic Adventure Race (WAAR) this afternoon.
Fresh from winning the Interfirms in Letterkenny, Declan Ferry from Loughanure won the men’s event, while Maria Mulligan was the first female home. They took part over the full WAAR route where they completed a 10km run, 42.5km cycle of the Wild Atlantic Way, 2km hike and 1km kayak on the Mullaghdearg Lake before crossing the finish line. Ferry’s time was 2:20:28, with Peter O’Donnell second in 2:23:21 and third place went to 2:27:41, with Mulligan’s time of 2:47:52 enough to win the female event ahead of Victoria Kinkaid, 2:54:05, and Geraldine Heery with 2:56:06.

The team event was won by Running on Empty on 2:44:22 and the Sprint Course winners were Nigel Foster and Caron McDermott. Philly Egan and Cloda Finch were victors in the Duathlon and WAAR Beag saw Conor McLaughlin and Helen Duffy take the titles.
