In Pictures: Bundoran Bay Swim launch - 2024 event to celebrate community

'The day will be all about community supporting community'

Bundoran Community Centre’s temporary home was the setting for the launch of this year’s Bundoran Bay Swim and 5K walk/run. And it was an appropriate location, considering that this year’s event is all about bringing the community together. Click on the arrows below to see Philip Mulligan's photos from the launch event.

Killian O’Kelly from the organising committee told Donegal Live: “The swim is a longstanding tradition in  Bundoran, and at 2.4km is for experienced swimmers.

“This year we have added a 5K walk and run so that everyone can get involved.

“It is a fundraiser for Bundoran Community Centre, so the day will be all about community supporting community.”

Major renovation work is underway at Bundoran Community Centre which is in the former Allied Irish Bank building. The centre is currently operating from the Old Town Council offices.

The swim takes place on June 16, starting at Tullan Strand at 2pm and finishing at the pier. Registration opens at 12 noon.

There will be markers to guide the swimmers, and kayak and boat support along the course.

For those hoping to take on the swim, Killian - who is a volunteer with the RNLI - is reminding people that it is for experienced swimmers. And as always, it is subject to sea conditions on the day.

“And we will make sure the jellyfish are elsewhere in Donegal Bay that day,” he laughs.

The 5k event gets underway at 11am.

Details of the swim can be found at www.bundoranbayswim.com

Updates and details of community centre activities can be found at www.bundorancommunitycentre.com

Entry for the swim is €30, and the entry for the 5K is €10 for adults or €5 for U17s.
