In Pictures: A journey back in time at Vintage Day in Rossnowlagh

The event by South Donegal Vintage and Heritage Club was a fundraiser for Donegal Hospice and Sligo Oncology Unit

South Donegal Vintage & Heritage Club hosted their vintage day on Sunday, April 28 in the public Carpark Rossnowlagh. Click on the arrows below to see Siobhan McGowan's photos of the event.

Preparations began in early 2024 to get our vintage day going after a break owing to Covid-19.

Once again, our sponsors got behind us with generous donations to help with the cost of this event

With proceeds going to Donegal hospice and Sligo oncology unit the tickets for our grand draw went like pancakes. Many thanks to all our buyers and our ticket sellers.

Winners:

1st Prize Laura Mc Goldrick

2nd Prize Mark Mc Neely

3rd Prize Tom Mc Brearty

Sure, enough on Sunday morning the roads leading to Rossnowlagh was like a scene out of heartbeat. With cars, lorries, motorbikes, tractors, old engines and many more relics of yesteryear all out and about for old and young to view and relive some of our forgotten ways of life.

Blacksmith, blockmaking, thatching, wood turning, basket making, loy digging, chain saw carving, Hand wood carving, Butter making, Spinning, crocheting, and the hilarious poteen makers all demonstrating their skills. Traders selling their wares something for everyone many a bargain was to be had.

We had more planes than Knock airport with a great display of model aeroplanes - our runway just wasn’t big enough for take-off.

Children had a great time petting the animals from Corbally Farm and also looking at the fine display of handmade model toys by D. Diver & Son.

The thrasher started in the late afternoon looking great and matched by a beautiful restored Fisher Humphries baler with a pair of Fordsons. The crowds gathered around to see this machine working that once was a common site around Donegal.

In the Marque the ladies were busy serving teas, coffees, soup and a vast array of sandwiches and all home baked goodies. There was such a variety to choose from.

Music by Michael Cleary and Jacqui Bannon got all the pros out dancing so many fancy steps.

All and all a great day was had. Many thanks to all that helped, local media for all their publicity, Donegal County Council for the fantastic venue and their help, club members and helpers who came on Saturday to set up the venue.
