The brain-child of Bridin Bell, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Health, Minding Brigid was a two-day event focused on bringing all aspects of women’s health into the spotlight, open to all women from 18 upwards. The event was managed by a small, diverse group of women who are determined to see appropriate and relevant information brought to as many as possible, in a safe and welcoming environment.
The first event, Minding Little Brigid, took place on Friday, January 31 in the Abbey Hotel. It was designed to empower young girls (teen health for TY students) by offering information sessions that encouraged them to navigate their journey in a positive, meaningful, and fulfilling way.
Topics covered included managing menstrual health while participating in physical activities, self-defence, building positive relationships, personal hygiene, mental health, bra fitting, skincare, and contraception.
The second event, Minding Brigid, hosted by Lorraine Keane was held on Saturday, February 1 in the Abbey Hotel, with a focus on the challenges and solutions related to perimenopausal and postmenopausal stages.
Topics included hormone replacement therapy versus natural methods, pelvic and bone health, breast and cervical screenings, support groups, and overall physical health, presented by professional skilled experts in each aspect of women’s health.
This was a not-for-profit event with each expert and organiser giving of their time voluntarily.
