Under the guidance of Roger White from Love Woodland Northwest, the volunteers on the day planted a mixture of trees including Rowan, Crab Apple, Blackthorn and more with 80 trees in total in the lovely setting of Sentry Hill.

This followed a successful Sponsor a Tree campaign and some of those who sponsored a tress came complete with spades to plant their sponsored tree. These individuals, families and businesses will now have the unique opportunity of seeing their trees grow over many years and know that they took part in this special project.

Gerard McCormick, Chairperson of Letterkenny Tidy Towns, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating: "We had a great turnout on Saturday and were lucky with the weather. Tree planting is a vital part of our work in Letterkenny Tidy Towns, and we are delighted to see businesses and individuals coming together to support a greener future.

"This collaboration with Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce was a unique opportunity to enhance the town’s biodiversity while also engaging the community in an environmental project that will have long-lasting benefits. The volunteers who came along were so enthusiastic for the project and everyone worked together to turn this idea into a reality.

Claire McDonough, President of Letterkenny Chamber, also highlighted the significance of the event, saying: "We were delighted to partner with Letterkenny Tidy Towns on this project. We are always encouraging the principles of sustainability and this is a significant and tangible project that not only helps us kick off our 60 anniversary celebrations but makes a long-lasting impact on the environment. The Chamber has a long history of supporting the local community and has partnered with Letterkenny Tidy Towns on many projects. This is the most tangible by far and what better way to mark our 60th Anniversary than by contributing to the enhancement and sustainability of Letterkenny.”

Letterkenny Tidy Towns and Letterkenny Chamber would like to thank Committee Members, Volunteers, CE & DLDC participants, Alcorns Flower & Garden Centre, Chamber members and everyone who sponsored a tree and planted it or helped on the day. Also a word out to the talented piper who played and added a special touch to the day.
