Current councillor and re-election hopeful Jimmy Kavanagh has said that the 100% Redress party "affected his vote".
Speaking to Donegal Live reporter, Mary McFadden, he said he was happy with yesterday evening's (Saturday 8) tally results, which saw him receive 1,222 first preference votes, however Fine Gael's result generally was "very disappointing".
He said, "We're going to hold the seat and that's the important thing. This was a really difficult campaign, there's no taking away from that, we were under a lot of pressure especially on the defective blocks issue.
"If you look at where [100% Redress] got their big big votes, they got a lot of them in my area in Glencar and also in Woodlands, which is also a very strong Fine Gael traditionally, and that reflects where the really bad mica problems are in Letterkenny.
"It affected my vote, but having said that my vote is slightly bigger than it was the last time so I'm happy with that and I'm happy that we've held it.
"I'm sorry that that doesn't seem to be the case in Inishowen. This is just a huge issue and the people have spoken about it and I think we need to take that on board."
