Home and businesses owners in parts of East Donegal endured a night of absolute horror as their premises were flooded.
Met Eireann had issued a status yellow rainfall alert, warning of 'potential for flooding,'
But nothing could have prepared people for the deluge that ensued, with rivers of water running down streets and into properties. The fire service was on hand to mitigate damage as much as possible, with crews working tirelessly to pump water from the area.
At the scene of the flooding in Castlefinn, one of the worst hit areas, owners of McGlynn's Restaurant took to social media to convey their gratitude for the response to the crisis.
"Not all hero's wear capes," they said. "We have some superstars here tonight it will be remembered."
Road surfaces have also been damaged, while some are still flooded. Gardaí and Donegal County Council have urged people not to drive through areas that are still flooded, or which were damaged by flooding.
A garda spokesperson said: "The public are urged to take care on the roads due to flooding and flood damage in East Donegal including the Castlefin, Raphoe, Liscooley, Killygordon, Convoy and Ballybofey areas."
Donegal County Council's spokesperson said: "The public are advised not to enter flood waters due the risk of unseen dangers such as damaged bridges and culverts. The public are also advised to avoid any unnecessary journeys at this time."
