Watch: Sssh! Donegal Tourism launch It’s Yours/It’s Ours campaign with Eric Roberts

The new campaign, ‘Sharing Donegal’, builds on the phenomenal success of the Spring 2024 and Autumn 2023 campaigns which reached over 43 million people and achieved over 8 million video views in total

Donegal Tourism is proud to launch a new advertising campaign in the ‘It’s Yours It's Ours’ series, a playful portrayal of attempts by Donegal locals to keep the best of their county under wraps.

The new campaign, ‘Sharing Donegal’, builds on the phenomenal success of the Spring 2024 and Autumn 2023 campaigns which reached over 43 million people and achieved over 8 million video views in total. Eric Roberts, Donegal native and nationally acclaimed TikTok personality, continues in the starring role with a new twist to the theme of keeping Donegal a secret.

Until now, Roberts was highly conflicted when it came to sharing Donegal’s best-kept secrets with others. But in this new video, Roberts is prepared, somewhat begrudgingly, to share. In this sequel to the It's Yours/It’s Ours campaign, he shows viewers some of his favourite spots and despite himself, has immense fun in sharing each activity and experience.

The real star of the show - Donegal - shines throughout. This year’s campaign aims to boost national tourism in Donegal, particularly during the shoulder seasons of autumn and winter, by drawing attention to the allure of the region with an emphasis on experiences that can be enjoyed no matter the weather or time of year.

The following list are some of the highlights and recommendations from Roberts for visitors to his native county:

  • Be the first to leave footprints in the sand on one of Donegal’s 12, stunning, blue flag beaches
  • Stand side-by-side with animals you’ve probably only seen on television, at Wild Ireland wildlife park and Wild Alpaca Way
  • Take a stroll in the magical woods along the River Finn in Drumboe
  • Devour incredible fish and seafood in the Olde Glen bar in Glen Village
  • Enjoy a creamy pint in the Rusty Mackerel at the foot of Sliabh Liag
  • Watch the sun rise from the top of Errigal Mountain
  • Meet the locals, and chat with those that have lived in Donegal their entire life, to learn about the amazing history that covers the county

Spanning digital, PR, social, and VOD channels, the campaign is set to reach a vast audience of potential visitors seeking an unforgettable experience in Ireland. From its breathtaking, ever-changing natural beauty to its rich cultural heritage, the county is a fantastic place to visit at any time of year, offering an unforgettable experience with each changing season.

“Donegal is a year-round destination and what makes it a special place to visit is the warm welcome, unique culture, stunning landscapes, and artisan culinary experiences," Cllr Niamh Kennedy, Cathaoirleach, Donegal County Council, said. "Our campaign aims to highlight the diverse experiences and activities and to inspire the audience to discover personalised and immersive experiences year-round. We envision an audience that is not just inspired by Donegal’s beauty but empowered to seek their own unique adventure within it.”

Donegal County Council is committed to investing in the promotion of the county as a world-class destination - showcasing that it is one of Ireland’s most magical regions with a variety of cultural, outdoor and gastronomic offerings for visitors, all year-round,” said John G McLaughlin, Chief Executive, Donegal County Council.

Eric Roberts commented: ‘Working on the creative aspect of this campaign together with the bigO and Donegal Tourism teams, to showcase what Donegal has on offer, has been magical. I’m so proud of my roots and I genuinely identify closely with the feeling of wanting to keep Donegal to ourselves, while at the same time knowing that sharing it with others is part of the fun! Just don’t tell anyone!”
