An outstanding weekend at the Sult Festival in Gaoth Dobhair

The committee and community joined as one to ensure a great time was had by one and all

Spirits were high in Machaire Gathlán over the course of the weekend as the grounds became home to the annual musical festival that is attracting people from across the country.

On Saturday night over two thousand people attended SULT music festival where major top-line acts took to the stage. The line-up included Tinie Tempah, Ash and Ham Sandwich on Friday night.

The wind hit Gaoth Dobhair overnight and on Sunday morning the committee discovered their two bars had been badly damaged. The committee sent out an SOS on social media asking for help and they were surprised and very appreciative of the overwhelming response.

Máire Uí Chomhaill, a member of the committee said locals arrived and rebuilt the two bars which meant the committee could start events in time.

She said: "This morning we discovered the damage had done but we asked for help and so many people came to help us. It shows that when the community come together they can achieve anything. The men got to work and built us two new bars which meant we opened in time. We have so much appreciation for what they did."

Tonight Dean Lewis will take to the stage in his only Irish performance this year and the grounds are filling up with a line of colourful cars edging their way towards the GAA club and letting passengers out near the huge blue and yellow tent.

Máire said the committee would like to thank all those who helped them. She was also happy to report that those who were in attendance last night were well behaved and the night came to an end without any hitches.

Local Donna Gallagher is in attendance for the entire event. She felt that she had to attend the entire weekend event because there were so many excellent performers.

Polka 4 took to the stage this evening and those in the tent enjoyed the performance. The fluent Irish speakers said they were overjoyed to be present to play in Gaoth Dobhair.

They said: "Go raibh míle maith agaibh as ucht cuireadh a thabhairt duinn chuig Sult."
