GALLERY: A look back at a busy sporting weekend

No joy for Downings in Ulster, but there's victory for Donegal Masters

On a weekend when Seamus Coleman and the Republic of Ireland enjoyed a famous World Cup qualifier win in Austria, it was a busy couple of days for Donegal sport.

Downings unfortunately bowed out of the Ulster Junior Club Championship, losing their semi-final  0-13 to 0-6 against Blackhill of Monaghan in Owenbeg on Sunday.

On Saturday, Donegal beat Offaly by three points, 0-13 to 0-10 in the All Ireland Masters Shield Final in Galway.

There was victory too for Carndonagh in the Donegal U16 Division Two Championship Final when they beat Termon 2-12 to 2-11 in a thriller in Convoy.

In athletics, Christopher Johnstone from Finn Valley and Catriona Jennings of Letterkenny took the senior cross country titles in Stranorlar on Sunday.

The pair also led their teams to gold medals over a trying course.

In football, there was plenty of action locally with Cockhill Celtic winning again in the Ulster Senior League while Milford United won the big game in the Donegal League Premier Division, defeating Rathmullan Celtic 3-1.

See all the action in Monday's DPP/Donegal Democrat.
