Cllr Jimmy Brogan hands in petition calling for traffic safety measures in Frosses

A petition calling for traffic safety measures in Frosses, signed by nearly 500 people and businesses, has been given to Donegal County Council’s executive during the July monthly meeting of the Donegal Municipal District.

Recently installed Donegal MD Cathaoirleach, Cllr Jimmy Brogan, gave the petition to the Area Manager for Roads and Transportation, Mark Sweeney

Cllr Brogan said: “It has come to my attention that the speed limit sign that the people in Frosses are looking for has come up in Rathmullan.

“There is precedent, and they are going around the county, so the people in Frosses are wondering when they are going to get their own.

“I have a petition signed by nearly 500 people, and a couple of businesses have handed in their support.”

In response, Sweeney was happy to receive the petition, but warned against flashing speed signs placed in particular locations.

He commented: “Moving away from the sign showing the speed because people were then setting up a target. We have to be mindful of where we are putting them.

“I don’t believe it is the parents coming to the school causing the problem. It is people going through the village.”
