Donegal-based band Final Girl will headline the Gig for Gaza at the Balor Arts Centre
A Gig for Gaza is set to take place in Ballybofey to raise funds for those facing the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
Five acts will perform at the event, which will take place in the Balor Arts Centre, Ballybofey, on Saturday, August 9.
Formed in 2024, Final Girl is the headline act, composed of Catherine Gallagher, Conor Duffy, Ciarán and Seán Coleman. Final Girl houses a DIY approach and memorable live sound that's been described as ‘Garage punk beside a haunted house’.
Shauna Scanlon
Ballybofey singer/songwriter Shauna Scanlon is on the lineup, having released her first EP 'Brand New' in March and headlining the Balor in May.
Nine Foot Lizards
The evening will also feature some more local talent with a Ballybofey rock duo, Nine Foot Lizards. The band is a member of the local artistic collective, N15, and features Adam Ayers on bass, guitar and vocals, and Matthew Connolly on drums. In 2021, they decided to form Nine Foot Lizards and have since been writing original music together. The Lizards’ work focuses on introducing rock ‘n’ roll music back to younger audiences.
Jason Deery
Jason Deery, a singer-songwriter, will be accompanied by Jordan and Adam Hannigan. All members of the N15 music collective, Jason and the Hannigan brothers, are long-time collaborators.
Sarah Creighton Keogh
The night will be punctuated with the live poetry of Dublin writer Sarah Creighton Keogh, who is known for her sharp wit and emotionally charged work.
This Gig for Gaza has been curated by Siobhán Doyle and Daniel Browne. Siobhán was involved in the Balor growing up, having been away for a few years studying sustainability. Earlier this year, Daniel directed The Butt Drama Circle’s hit production of Green Day's American Idiot at the theatre and has been involved in various other recent productions.
Event organisers have set up a donation page for those who can’t make it or would like to donate beyond the price of the ticket. The funds raised will go to UNICEF, who provide humanitarian aid - Gig for Gaza Ballybofey
Despite the severe aid restrictions and deadly bombings, UNICEF has remained on the ground. Between May 19 and June 4, UNICEF brought 26 trucks of aid, including life-saving food, across the border, and they have 1,000 more ready to go. “That is why we kindly ask you to join us for a night of activism and art to show solidarity and raise much-needed funds to bring humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza, just under half of whom are children,” Siobhán and Daniel appealed. “Thank you for your support. It is deeply appreciated. Free Palestine.”

Event organisers would like to extend a special thanks to Conor Malone and the Balor Arts Centre, who provided the venue for the evening.
