Arlene Crossan opened her outdoor season with an excellent win in Belgium.
The Finn Valley AC athlete set a new club record to win over 400m in 53.63 seconds.
Crossan was competing at the Open Belgisch Studentenkampioenschap and took victory from Belgian pair Geraldine Dheur (54.79) and Clara De Vare (55.49).
Over two laps of the Vlierzele Sportief in Oordegem Crossan was a comfortable winner in a new Finn Valley AC club record.
Her previous best in the event was 54.21 seconds, clockedlast May at Mary Peters Track in Belfast when running at an Irish Milers Meet.
The Shauna Carlin-coached Crossan is second on the all-time Donegal list with Kelly McGrory recording a 52.62 run last year in Brussels.
In March, Crossan competed with the Ireland women’s 4x400m relay team in the final at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

That race represented the Letterkenny native’s Irish senior debut having previously competed in an Irish fest at the EYOF, European U18s and European Juniors.
