Another swift time for Mark English in Oslo

Three nights after lowering the Irish 800m to sub-1:44 for the first time, Mark English clocked the second fastest time of his career at a Diamond League meeting in Oslo on Thursday night

Mark English clocked another superb time in Oslo on Thursday night.

The Finn Valley AC athlete finished the 800m at the Bislett Games in 1:44.33 - the second fastest time of his career.

At the Diamond League meet in the Bislett Stadium, English finished seventh in a race loaded by some of the world’s best 800m runners.

The time came three nights after he broke the Irish record in a stunning a 1:43.92 in Hengelo on Monday at the FBK Games. That was the second time in 11 days that the Letterkenny native broke the Irish record having recorded a 1:44.34 in Bydgoszcz.

It has been quite the year for English, the 32-year-old having won European Indoor bronze in Apeldoorn in March.

The 800m at the Bislett Games was won by the Olympic champion, Emmanuel Wanyonyi from Kenya, who finished in 1:42.78, ahead of Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui, this in 1:42.90.

English, now coached by Australian Justin Rinaldi, has already secured his place at the World Athletics Championships, which take place in Tokyo in September.
