Donegal athletes medal at Autumn Open Cross Country in Dublin

Some Donegal athletes took medals from the Autumn Open Cross Country at Abbotstown on Sunday.

Noeleen Scanlan was third in the masters women’s race, winning the F40 category in the process.

The Finn Valley AC athlete missed silver only by around nine seconds. Scanlan wasn’t far off Dympna Ryan (Dundrum) and Sinead O’Connor (Leevale), who were first and second.

Rosses AC’s Helen McCready was eighth in the masters race and second F40.

Fresh from winning W50 1500m bronze at the European Masters in Madeira, Catriona Devine of Finn Valley AC was 20th overall in the masters and third in the F50 category.

In the senior women’s race, which was won by Bandon’s Fiona Everard, Amy Greene of Finn Valley AC was eighth overall 

In the masters men’s race, Ciaran McGonagle of Letterkenny AC was the lead Donegal runner in 23rd. McGonagle was fourth in the M45 category.

Cranford AC’s Caolan McFadden suffered a fall in the junior race and placed fourth, but wasn’t far off the medals at all. In the same race, Odhran McBrearty of Finn Valley AC finished ninth.

Several teams from Finn Valley AC medalled in the juvenile cross country relays, which also took place at Abbotstown on Sunday.

The U11 girl’s of Caitlin Gillespie, Eimear Moy, Lacey McCaughan, Erin Moy and Cora Clarke won silver.

Four other Finn Valley teams won bronze: The U17 mixed relay team of Mark Alexander, Caolan Gillespie, Tara Rose Smith and Holly McNulty; the U15 girls of Saorla Gilligan, Aoibheann Greene, Darcie Clarke and Caoimhe McNeill and sub Rachel McBride; the U12 mixed team of Shay McHugh, Zach McKinley, Sorcha Cunningham and Ceola McGlinchey with sub Brody McMenamin; and the U11 boys of Eoin Cunningham, Jude Martin, Harry Houston, Darragh Irwin and Ceadan McMenamin.
