Dungloe boxer Alesha Mullis Boyle to tackle European U17 Championships

Dungloe boxer Alesha Mullis Boyle will take to the ring this week at the European U17 Championships in Germany.

A three-time Irish champion this year, Mullis Boyle is part of a 23-strong Irish team that has jetted out to Kienbaum for the inaugural World Boxing confederation-level championships for such boxers.

Mullis Boyle won the U17 66kgs final when beating Grace Bailey of Castlebar at the National Stadium.

Earlier in the year, she defeated Ella Leonard in two finals to take the Youth 1 and Senior Cadet 66kgs titles.

She was the winner of the Johnny McDaid Award for the best overall female at the County Donegal Boxing Board Awards in September.

Mullis Boyle also took victory at the World of Havoc Tournament in Orlando, Florida, beating Summer Jackson to take a gold medal, 

Preparations for this Irish team have included a six-week bloc of high performance training, and a three-day sparring camp with Team England at the GB Olympic Training Centre in Sheffield.

The draw is scheduled to take place at 6pm, Irish time, on Tuesday with boxing underway on Wednesday with the tournament to run until December 17, when finals and medal ceremonies take place.
