Dungloe boxer Alesha Mullis Boyle will fight for a European medal on Sunday.

Mullis Boyle will clash with Kateryna Moroz from Ukraine in a 66kgs quarter-final at the European U17 Championships.

A win would secure Mullis Boyle, a three-time Irish champion this year, a place among the medals in Kienbaum, Germany. 

Mullis Boyle and Moroz were given byes to the last eight in Tuesday’s draw,

Mullis Boyle is part of a 23-strong Irish team for the inaugural World Boxing confederation-level championships for such boxers.

Mullis Boyle won the U17 66kgs final when beating Grace Bailey of Castlebar at the National Stadium.

Earlier in the year, she defeated Ella Leonard in two finals to take the Youth 1 and Senior Cadet 66kgs titles.

She was the winner of the Johnny McDaid Award for the best overall female at the County Donegal Boxing Board Awards in September.

Mullis Boyle also took victory at the World of Havoc Tournament in Orlando, Florida, beating Summer Jackson to take a gold medal, 

Preparations for this Irish team have included a six-week bloc of high performance training, and a three-day sparring camp with Team England at the GB Olympic Training Centre in Sheffield.
