Jason Quigley is bringing pro boxing to the Finn Valley Centre
As Donegal prepares for a third professional boxing event in under three years, Fight Night at the Valley promoter Jason Quigley of Sheer Sports is hoping that this will only be the start of it in the county.
The event will be the first professional boxing event in the Twin Towns, taking place in the Finn Valley Centre on February 21.
A venue held close to Quigley, who began his boxing career there, he’s excited to see what’s to come from it.
“It’s something I don’t think ever crossed my mind (having professional boxing there) as a boxer growing up.
“I trained there for the majority of my amateur career and we had amateur shows thereand my homecomings from Worlds and Europeans so it holds a special place in my heart and memories.”
It follows on from the Rumble In The Hills events held in the Aura Leisure Complex in late 2023 and 2025, and Quigley is hoping to make it an even more recurring event.
“These are going to be the first of many. This is something we’ve planned to have an annual show in Letterkenny and now in the Finn Valley Centre, and we’ll see how things pan out. We definitely want to put two more dates out for next year.
“When you think of professional boxing, it’s Dublin, Manchester, New York, but I think we showed in Letterkenny that this isn’t small time.
“I remember as an amateur that professional boxing was unheard of up here, if you wanted to see it you’d have to have an overnight stay in a hotel, so when it’s local, it’s great for the fans.
“The real aim is to bring boxing to a different level in Donegal.”
More names will be announced in the New Year, but some of the names confirmed so far include Raphoe Boxing Club graduate Danny Duffy, who will be facing Lakshmy Zaragoza.
Galway’s Jason Myers, Gorey native David Kennedy and Dublin super-heavyweight Daniel Fakoyede will also be well supported by their countrymen.
“They’re some of the best fighters in Ireland, local and down the country, but it’s Ireland’s cream of the crop.”
