David Weir made good on his promise this week as he handed over €25,000 to Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

The Ardara man, who stepped into the squared circle for the very first time prior to Christmas, had his hand raised in impressive fashion in his debut bout.

Weir, now residing in Dubai, was part of the FightGecko Combat Series main event card that took place in early December.

And he backed up his pre-fight promise as an early flurry completely overwhelmed his opponent, Azmodin Mohammdi, and an impressive first-round stoppage was secured.

Weir did, unfortunately, pick up a minor hand injury in the bout but says he will be back between the ropes real soon.

Weir’s Instagram profile @thediamondweir describes himself as a ‘Boxer and Multi Business Owner/Property Investor'.

The €25,000 cheque he handed over this week came courtesy of all the pay-per-view subscriptions that used his name in the special code section to purchase the fight.

A post on his various social media channels read: “Full fight purse of €25,000 donated to Children’s Health Foundation which will help sick children and their families. Around the whole country.

“Every child deserves a good chance at life. Praying this reaches as many in Crumlin, Temple Street, Tallaght, Connolly.

“Thank you to all the people who bought into the PPV etc for the fight, you are a part of this.

“When you have my word, you have my agreement. God bless”.
