Councillor suggests Water Street one-way reversal in Donegal Town

Cllr Noel Jordan spoke to Donegal Live after Donegal Municipal District meeting
Cllr Noel Jordan suggested at July’s meeting of the Donegal Municipal District to reverse the one-way system at Water Street in Donegal Town, to help ease congestion in Donegal Town.
Speaking to Donegal Live after the council meeting, Cllr Jordan spoke of the issues of congestion in Donegal Town, including new developments, and buses at The Diamond.
Cllr Jordan said: “We were talking about the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund and why it was so badly needed in Donegal Town, because a lot of new developments, particularly in the west end of the town.
“All of that equates to double the amount of traffic pushed towards Tirchonaill Street.
“In the submission that I have made to the NTA (National Transport Authority), in part of the area plan was to reverse Water Street the other way so that you are not directing all the traffic to Tirchonaill Street and straight on to The Diamond.
“The big issue is the buses, if we can remove them from The Diamond. We still have an offer from a developer out at Westpoint to provide a proper bus depot, but the NTA, and that is why I am frustrated with this.
“I am asking, should we go as a delegation to meet the NTA and the Minister of Transport to get this addressed, but they don’t seem to be listening. I know we are in the middle of a local area plan and we will see the results of this, but the NTA don’t seem to want to move from The Diamond.
“They have suggested a site down at the old tourism building, but to me, that is not a runner, and to the public, I have seen it with submissions that the public does not want a bus depot there.
“There is an alternative, the back car park or that site in Westpoint, and that is where we want to see it.”
