Donegal court hears man facing criminal damage charge has left the country

A bench warrant has been issued in respect of a foreign national believed to have permanently left the country.

Laszlo Danyi, 32, with an address listed at Oak Meadows, Donegal Town, was due before Donegal District Court on Monday, February 24. He is charged that on August 28, 2024 at 4 Oak Meadows, Donegal Town, he caused criminal damage to a mobile phone valued at €500.

The offence is contrary to Section 2(1) of the Criminal Damage Act 1991.

Solicitor Frank Murphy said his office had been unable to make direct contact with the defendant.

“This man has left the jurisdiction and doesn’t seem to have any intention of returning,” said Mr Murphy.

“The last day, his ex-partner was in court and she said he would not be returning.”

Inspector Sean McDaid said the defendant had previously been remanded in his absence while directions were awaited from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“I ask for a bench warrant,” said the inspector.

Judge Murphy granted a warrant for the arrest of Laszlo.
