The man appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court
A Quigley’s Point man has admitted seriously assaulting another man in Carndonagh.
Dermot Doherty appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court.
The 38-year-old, of Tenfoot Road, Drung, Quigley’s Point, pleaded guilty to an incident on September 18, 2022 at Tul Na Ri, Carndonagh.
Doherty is charged that he assaulted Shay McLaughlin, causing him harm. The charge is contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
Barrister Mr Gareth McGrory BL, for Doherty, told the court that his client has come forward on a signed guilty plea from Carndonagh District Court.
Asked to affirm the guilty plea, Doherty replied: “Yes”.
Mr McGrory said his client, who has no previous convictions, was “anxious to put his best foot forward” and asked for a chance to “gather compensation”.
Judge John Aylmer sought an assessment as to Doherty’s suitability for community service and adjourned the case until the February sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
