In Pictures: Céilíthon night of music, stories and storytelling in Cashelard

The event was organised by the South Donegal Farmers Health and Well Being Group who came together to raise funds on behalf of the Breesy Centre

There was music, stories, recitations and songs galore in Cashelard on Saturday evening, November 15.

The event was organised by the South Donegal Farmers Health and Well Being Group who came together to raise funds on behalf of the Breesy Centre. Fun and good laughs were had by all in what proved to be a very memorable night, reminiscent of the old Céilí gatherings of yesteryears. Surely a perfect antidote to staying at home scrolling through anti-social network apps on one’s phone!

Music was provided by Brian Curristin, Bernie Quinn, Pat McGee, Collette Glendinning and Frank McAree. Storytellers included PJ McNeilis and Mickey McGroary while local performers included poet Roisín Lee, singer Mick Donagher and Mark Devereux.

As the stars shone brightly outside, up and coming star Ollie Glendinning played some fine tunes on the feadóg to the delight of one and all.

Another star performer on the night was current All-Ireland storytelling champion and Tyrone’s finest reciter, Paddy Montague. He had the audience rolling around in stitches of laughter one moment, and mesmerised by a deeply enchanting fairy story the next.

The South Donegal Farmers Group would like to thank all the businesses who gave so generously and those at the event who helped raise €432 on the night for the Breesy Centre in Cashelard, and all who helped out on the night as a fine supper was served at the half-time interval.

Special thanks also to the Donegal Volunteer Centre, DLDC, Donegal County Council, LCDC and Healthy Donegal who funded the successful twelve months South Donegal Farmers Health and Well Being Group.

It is hoped that the two innovative pilot programmes, one in north Donegal, and one in south Donegal, will secure further EU funding to expand this much needed rural programme nationwide.
