Moville resident in court after allegedly brandishing a weapon and making threats

A Moville man has appeared in court accused of brandishing a weapon in anger, making a threat and assault.

Iliia Biletskyi, of Riverwood, Moville, appeared before Buncrana District Court on three separate serious charges.

The Book of Evidence was served on the 19-year-old defendant, who was accompanied in court by a Ukrainian interpreter, who relayed the proceedings to him.

The charges, which will be dealt with at the Circuit Court, follow an alleged incident at Riverwood, Moville, on October 29, 2024.

Mr Biletskyi is charged with producing a box-cutting Stanley knife contrary to Section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

He is also accused of making a threat to kill or cause serious harm under Section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997. The defendant is separately charged with a Section 2 assault under the same Act.

Buncrana-based Garda Brandon Wilkie gave evidence in court of having served the Book of Evidence on Mr Biletskyi in the presence of an interpreter.

Defence solicitor Carrie Hegarty made an application for an adjournment so that her client may “consider a signed guilty plea” before the case proceeds to Letterkenny Circuit Court next year.

Judge Emile Daly adjourned the matter back to Buncrana District Court on January 8, 2026 to allow time for that to happen.
