Donegal motorist must pay €288 in fines and court costs for parking violation

The motorist failed to pay the parking meter in Buncrana.

A motorist who failed to pay and display for parking in Inishowen last summer has been ordered to pay a fine and legal costs amounting to €288.

Dovud Falzov, of Ard Na Meala, St Johnston, did not appear before Buncrana District Court to answer the parking violation, as the registered owner of the vehicle involved.

However, Judge Emile Daly directed the case, which was brought by Donegal County Council, to proceed in his absence.

A traffic warden gave evidence of having detected the motoring misdemeanour in Buncrana on July 12 last year.

The warden was on patrol that morning at 9.10am, when they observed a 131-G vehicle, registered to Mr Falzov, with no valid pay and display or electronic payment made.

They issued a fixed charge penalty notice almost an hour later at 10.08am, placing it under the windscreen wipers, before taking photographs for evidence. The fine was not paid.

Judge Daly queried what the last opportunity to pay the fine would have been before court proceedings issued, and DCC solicitor Donna Ferry informed her that it was in the sum of €80.

The judge then fined the motorist €150, with four months to pay. Mr Falzov was also ordered to pay the Council’s legal bill of €138 in the case, for a €288 total judgement against him.
