St Johnston man faces Circuit Court trial over petrol bombs stash

Daniel Lynch

A man is to go on trial accused of having a number of weapons, including six petrol bombs, at his home St Johnston.

Daniel Lynch appeared before Letterkenny District Court in connection with the alleged offence.

The 47-year-old is charged following a Garda search of his home at Tullyowen, St Johnston, on December 13, 2024.

It is alleged that Lynch had in his custody or under his control six petrol bombs, a baseball bat, an iron bar, a knife, a sledgehammer and a wooden shaft.

The charge states that the items were possessed without lawful excuse or cause and were intended to be used, or allowed to be used by another, to damage property - various vehicles belonging to persons unknown - in a manner the accused knew was likely to endanger the lives of persons unknown.

The matter is before the court contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991.

Garda Pauline Doherty gave evidence relating to the arrest, charge and caution of the accused. She told the court she later met Lynch by arrangement and served him with the book of evidence.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins said the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented to the accused being sent forward for trial at the current sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Lynch was released on his own bail.

Solicitor for the accused, Me Patsy Gallagher, requested that both senior and junior counsel be assigned to represent his client at trial, citing “the contents of the indictment”.

Judge Emile Daly adjourned the case to the current sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
