A Letterkenny man has pleaded guilty to the assault of another man in the town.

Paddy Boyle appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The 50-year-old accused man pleaded guilty to assaulting James Maloney at Leck Cottages on January 11, 2023.

Barrister for the accused, Mr Sean McGee BL, said Mr Boyle has been in custody since Christmas when he took a bench warrant.

He added that his client is a man with a significant history of substance and alcohol misuse.

Mr McGee that his client was doing well in custody, was attending counselling and asked the court to consider seeking a probation report.

Mr McGee said he had a second application as his client suffers from bi-polar, as well as anxiety and stress and that he was seeking a psychiatric assessment.

Judge John Aylmer said this could be dealt with in the probation report and the case was adjourned until the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
