A Letterkenny man has admitted causing criminal damage to a woman’s car.

Paddy Sweeney pleaded guilty to the charge when he was formally arraigned at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Sweeney, a 28-year-old of Gort na Greine, Letterkenny, was charged that he did, without lawful excuse, cause damage to a Volkswagen Golf belonging to Gemma Penny, at Long Lane, Letterkenny, on March 7, 2024.

The charge is contrary to section 2 (1) of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991.

When the charge was put to Sweeney by the Court registrar, he replied only to say: “Guilty”.

Ms Fiona Crawford BL, barrister for the State, said there is a co-accused in the matter who has previously entered a guilty plea.

Mr Sean McGee BL, barrister for Sweeney, asked that sentencing be adjourned and sought that a probation and welfare report be prepared.

Judge John Aylmer said that it would be in ease of the Probation Service if an assessment for suitability for community service was obtained, rather than a full report.

The case was adjourned to allow that assessment be carried out and Sweeney was remanded on bail on the same terms and conditions.
