Tributes have been paid to Donegal boxing personality Peter Anderson, who has died.
A former professional boxer and a founder member of the Twin Towns Boxing Club, the late Mr Anderson passed away on Wednesday aged 84.
In 1979, along with his brother Brian – who boxed for Ireland at the 1964 Olympic Games - he helped to form the Twin Towns Boxing Club and they remained until handing over the pads in 1996.
Between 1957 and 1959, when he was basked in Cricklewood, London Peter Anderson boxed 22 times as a professional.
Noel McIvor from Ballyshannon (47) and Pat Bradley of Quigley's Point (32) are the only Donegal boxers to have had more pro fights.
Anderson had a 9-12-1 record as a professional and in 1998 he was given a Hall of Fame Award at the Donegal Sports Star Awards.
“He did his bit for the sport of boxing,” said Peter O'Donnell, the President of the County Donegal Boxing Board.
“Along with his brother, Brian, they came back from England and helped to found the Twin Towns club. They were very good boxing men, they were always there or thereabouts and coached many champions.”
Danny Ryan, Dermot Roan and Conor Quigley – father of current pro Jason Quigley – all won titles during Anderson's years at Twin Towns BC.
Late of Magherapaste, Drumboe Lower, Stranorlar, his death occurred at Brentwood Manor, Nursing Home, Convoy.
He is survived by his wife Cathy; their children Paul, Veronica, Bernie, Peter and John; sisters Maura, Roisin and Margaret; brothers Brian and PJ; sons and daughters-in-law Chris, Marie, Teresa and Dominic; grandchildren Bernice, Ryan, Niall, Katie, Rowan, Conor, Ainne; great-grandson Shea; and a wide circle of family and friends.
