Keaney sees red as Cliftonville draw in European qualifier in Gibraltar

Jack Keaney had a disappointing end to Cliftonville's first European qualifier of the season as he was red-carded in their 2-2 draw with St Joseph's of Gibraltar.

The Northern Irish Premiership side were away in the first leg on Tuesday night and led at the break as former Finn Harps man Ryan Curran opened the scoring.

But disaster struck as Donegal Town native Keaney was shown a red card ten minutes into the second half for a pull in the box, with St Joseph's levelling through an Alvaro Rey penalty.

Jonathan Addis put Cliftonville ahead again, also from the spot on 78 minutes, but Rey levelled the game five minutes later.

Another former Finn Harps man, Eric McWoods came on as a substitute for Jim Magilton's men.

Keaney helped the Reds to the Bet McLean Cup in March as they beat Glentoran in added time, while he also started for Drogheda United in the FAI Cup final in November as they beat Derry City.

But he won't be available for his Cliftonville side, who will hope to win the second leg in Solitude on Thursday week and set up a second-round tie with Shamrock Rovers.

In the Champions League qualifiers tonight, Burt native Mark Coyle will be looking to lead out his Shelbourne side in Tolka Park tonight as they face Northern Irish champions Linfield.
