Luke Witherow was part of the Ireland Hockey team that earned their place at the FIH Hockey World Cup Finals in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The Convoy native was in the squad as Ireland won all five games at the qualifiers in Santiago, Chile, as they moved up to ninth place in the World Rankings, their highest position since 2024.

Ireland were drawn in a qualifying group with Canada, South Korea, and Poland, which they topped after winning all three games by 5-2, 6-1, and 4-1, respectively.

That put them into a semi-final with Wales as they won 4-0 to secure their place, but they topped the classifications by defeating France 2-1 in the final.
