Donegal squeezed past Derry, the holders, to win the McKenna Cup for the fourth time with Martin Carney scoring nine points,
Deep into added time at the end of the first half, Adrian McGuckin netted to put Derry 1-5 to 0-7 ahead. The goal, described as ‘an unstoppable shot’, came so deep that the length of additional time was queried.
Seven minutes into the second half, Mickey Lynch bagged a second goal for the Sperrins, but Carney was to the fore as Donegal turned the tide.
