Some of the graffiti daubed at the Gort Scith picnic area.
There is anger and frustration after a bout of vandalism at a beautiful picnic area near Stranorlar.
Vandals daubed graffiti around Gort Scith in the area of Gortletteragh. Locals believe the incident took place on Tuesday night.
Pro-IRA graffiti was among the slogans scrawled at various locations throughout Gort Scith.
“To say we are shocked to find this done to our lovely amenity is putting it mildly,” said Frank Kelly.
“It is used widely by residents of the entire Finn Valley area as well as visitors and tourists to the area.”
In 2022, Gort Scith was enhanced significantly. The picnic benches were replaced, a grass area was relayed while a new decking area and fencing were installed.
The work was aided by the Minor Tourism Related Works Grant Scheme, which was administered by Donegal County Council.
Gort Scith.
Funding was allocated to BASICC following an application submitted in 2021 with works carried out by North West Forest Services.
Mr Kelly said: “Wouldn’t it be just great if we could find those who did this?
“We think it was done sometime maybe Tuesday night or earlier. They obviously had access to several spray paints, so maybe someone will notice something familiar or anything.”
