In the battle of the top two teams in the Intermediate Hurling Championship in O’Donnell Park on Friday evening, Dungloe came out on top due to a strong first-half performance.

The contest was largely decided by a stunning display from former county star Richie Ryan, who ended with a personal tally of 5-4.

The early exchanges were tight with two points from Ryan and one from Brendan Boyle, answered by home points from Eoin Scanlon and Gavin Forde.

Ryan struck his first goal on 17 minutes when he fielded a long ball and hammered home. After John Boyle and Damian McGowan hit further points for the visitors, the game was broken open by a devastating four-minute spell from Ryan.

Capitalising on careless handling in the St. Eunan’s defence, he fired unstoppable shots to the net on 24 and 26 minutes.
The Letterkenny team got a brief respite when Forde cleverly flicked the sliotar to the net.

However, this was immediately cancelled out when an intercepted puck out was fed to Ryan, who made no mistake from short range.
This salvo left a mountain for the home team to climb in the second half with a twelve-point gap, 1-2 to 4-5.
St. Eunan’s started the second half well with three Forde points. Once again, Ryan cancelled these when, after another fine save from Daire McBride, he pounced on the rebound to score.
Forde continued his outstanding scoring performance from play and placed balls with three further points in the third quarter.
This was added to by points from Colm McAnespie and Jordan Barr, as the home team chipped away at the deficit.
Conor Diver hit a point for Dungloe.
A key moment in the game was a fine save from Dungloe goalkeeper Pilib Rodgers, who saved a close-range shot from Calvin Aidoo after a searing run through the visitors’ defence. St. Eunan’s dominated the final quarter with four points by Forde and scores from Johnny Lambe and Aidoo closing the gap to three.
Ryan steadied the ship with two late points.
Two final strikes from Killian Barr and Thomas Crossan were not enough for the Letterkenny men, who just ran out of time.
