The Donegal Minors of 1985 at their Reunion on Saturday night
The Donegal Minors of 1985 gathered in the Bayview Hotel, Killybegs on Saturday night to reminisce on their achievements 40 years on.
A youthful Jimmy White was manager of the team while fellow Killybegs man, John Razda Cunningham was the captain.
The Donegal minors defeated Down, Monaghan, Armagh and Cavan to take the Ulster minor championship, the county’s second U-18 title, the previous one was won in 1956, so the side were bridging a 29 year gap.
The minors did the double that year, winning the Ulster Minor League also.
Most of the panel were present for the Reunion with a few unable to make it due to other commitments.
No doubt there were some stories re-told as this was a very talented group. They lost out to Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final in a year they were fancied to go all the way.
