Donegal set to be without three-time Ulster medal winner for 2026 season

Odhran McFadden Ferry, far right, is headed back to Australia

Odhran MacFadden Ferry will not be available for Donegal next season with the news that the defender is headed back to Australia.

The Gaoth Dobhair man returned to the fold at the beginning of last season, having originally departed for Oz at the end of the 2022 season.

The 27-year-old ended a three-year absence when he appeared in off the bench last March in the side’s NFL win over Derry in Ballyshannon.

He started the team’s opening Ulster SFC win over the Oak Leafers in Ballybofey and made subsequent appearances in off the bench against Down in the last four and in the extra-time provincial decider victory over Monaghan.

McFadden Ferry was also sprung in the All-Ireland semi-final drubbing of Meath but didn’t get minutes in the final loss to Kerry.

The player lined out for St Finnbarr’s of Perth last time out Down Under, where another former Donegal panellist, Ethan O’Donnell, also plies his trade.

The Glenties man has, just like the past two seasons, returned home in recent weeks and came straight back into the fold for Martin Regan’s Naomh Conaill.

The news is also a blow for McFadden Ferry’s club Gaoth Dobhair who will continue to be without his services as they look to progress in the knockout stages of the Donegal SFC.

Ronan Mac Niallais’ outfit are up against Kilcar in the last eight on Saturday evening at Davy Brennan Memorial Park in Glenties.
