Termon have won the last three LGFA senior Donegal titles
It is a case of so far so good for Termon and their joint management team of Adrian and Kevin McGettigan as they look forward to another Donegal LGFA championship final showdown with Glenfin.
Termon go into the final as the reigning champions after completing the ‘three in a row’ in last year’s final win over Moville.
In what has been one of Donegal football’s fiercest rivalries, across the board, in recent times, it’s a clash that you simply can’t take your eyes off.
And Adrian McGettigan sees the latest instalment of this grudge match as one that will again take on a life of its own once the action gets going.
“Naturally, we are delighted to be back in the final. It was the goal at the start of the season and the girls are really looking forward to Saturday.
“Our great rivals Glenfin are once again our opposition. And it is like when all rivals meet form goes out the window and there is never much between us anytime we meet and I don’t think it will be any different on Saturday.
“We met in the Division One league final just before the start of the championship and they beat us by a point. But it was a game that either team could have won. They just pipped us on the day.”
Yvonne Bonner did the damage that day while the Burn Road’s own Ciara McGarvey top-scored for Termon and finished the game with a personal tally of two goals and three points.
Roisin Friel, Cayla McFadden and Meabh Brady, with a point each, were the other scorers in that league decider at Fr Tierney Park.
The sides last met in the final in 2023 with Termon coming out on top to complete back to back finals wins over the ladies from Pairc Taoibhoige.
Termon defeated Moville in last year’s final with Geraldine McLaughlin scoring three goals and Jodie McFadden two in the 7-12 to 1-8 win over the North Inishowen ladies.
But with the former not available in 2025, that’s a huge amount of firepower to be without.
“We,ve lost Geraldine, Evelyn McGinley and Shannon McLaughlin from last year’s final team. They are huge losses and big boots to fill.
“But Geraldine’s sister Nicole, who we didn’t have at all last year is back. And she is playing very well and brings great experience to the team and all the other girls have stood up.”
Termon have reached the final on the back of four straight wins in the group stages over Aodh Ruadh, St Eunan’s, Dungloe and Moville.
And they had six points to spare over a young St Nauls’ side in the semi-final on a 1-9 to 0-6 scoreline.
“We are happy with the run to the final and we've had a week of training done since the St Naul’s game.
“We are fully aware of the challenge Glenfin will pose, given all the quality they have in their side.
“But we are ready to take on the challenge and, as I mentioned earlier, any time Termon and Glenfin meet those games take on a life of their own.”
